About Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers

Our History

Jim Lunceford embarked on his journey in the oil industry during the 1940s and ultimately established his own auto service station, Jim & Jim’s, in Homewood, Alabama. From the outset, Jim was committed to devising an innovative approach that would make servicing cars fast, easy, and convenient for drivers.


When Jim learned about a company in California that specialized in quick oil changes and witnessed a fast lube operation in Memphis, he recognized that this was the future of car maintenance. He also believed he could outperform anyone else in the field.


And indeed, he did. Since launching the first Express Oil Change & Service Center in the Birmingham, Alabama area in 1979, the company has expanded into a national leader in automotive service, boasting 396 locations nationwide. However, what truly sets us apart isn’t just our number of locations, but the fact that our brand has come to symbolize convenient, high-quality automotive service. To acknowledge our growth in the tire industry as well, we rebranded as Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers.


While most of the dedicated team members at Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers today weren’t present when Jim first opened his fast-track bays, one constant remains: we are unwavering in our commitment to delivering exceptional automotive service at lightning speed and at reasonable, customer-friendly prices.
